About Dr Boris Iankov

A consultant psychiatrist with more than 15 years of clinical experience within the National Health Service and the independent sector.
Dr Boris Iankov qualified with the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1996 and obtained his membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2005. He undertook basic specialist training in south west London and St George’s NHS Trust and Higher Specialist training on the Eastern Deanery Training Scheme. He obtained a Master’s Degree in Health Management in 2009.
He is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and approved by the Secretary of State under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 as an expert in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders, and certified by the Cardiff Law School as an expert witness since 2012.
Dr Iankov leads the specialist Dialect Behaviour Therapy Personality Disorder pathway at Elysium Healthcare, Milton Keynes. His work as a Consultant Psychiatrist largely entails treating women with severe personality disorders, often in the presence of co-morbid substance misuse, who pose a risk to themselves and others. In his current post, he regularly prepares reports for the courts as well as managers, as well as mental health review tribunal reports.
Over the years, Dr Iankov has worked on medium and low secure units as well as locked rehabilitation services, acute adult in-patient wards and community settings. Before starting work in a forensic service, he worked as a general adult psychiatrist and has many years of experience working in community and in-patient settings, with expertise in the areas of schizophrenia, dual diagnosis, affective disorders, personality disorders and violence.

Dr Iankov has been certified by the Cardiff Law School as an expert witness since 2012 and has extensive expertise in the preparation of medico-legal reports and giving oral evidence in magistrates’ courts, crown courts, Central Criminal Court, court-martial, youth courts, family courts, civil courts and coroner’s courts.
His specialism is women’s mental health, and he has extensive experience in Adult and Adolescent Forensic Psychiatry. His specialist interests are personality disorders, sexual abuse and trauma and the interface between secure and community psychiatric settings.
He has provided expert psychiatric opinion to the courts in a range of cases, including sexual offences, child sexual exploitation, assault, wounding, acquisitive offences, fraud and arson. He has given oral evidence in relation to psychiatric practice, capacity to form intent, dissociative fugue/amnesia, fitness to plead and disposal options.
Dr Iankov is also the visiting psychiatrist for Oakhill Secure Training Centre in Milton Keynes, a residential secure training centre for boys aged 12 to 18, on remand or sentenced to custody.
